...are up for Another Year in LA.

Checked out the opening reception of Charles Parker Boggs' solo exhibition, "The Trophy Lounge" at Another Year in LA. (That'd be the gallery right next to our very own Shotgun Space!)
His stuff's pretty great - there's a sense of both whimsy and creepiness that avoid tipping over into being silly. I could try to be articulate about my feelings on the show, but instead, I'll quote from the Hazard, Kentucky-based-artist's about me from his site:
i like cake. i like it very much. i entertain the idea of making a cake the size of a small house, where i could live until i’ve eaten my way out. The carpet would be hard to simulate with icing, and the glass in the windows. i don’t think i could eat the bathroom part.
Also, he has some pretty awesome sculptures of heads with spider legs that creeped me out, and reminded me a lot of The Thing, which is pretty much the best film ever. So there's that.
